Accessibility Mapping

Navigating around a school campus can be incredibly challenging, particularly for people with disabilities. We work with schools to create digital maps that call out accessibility-related features of campus buildings, providing students, faculty, and campus visitors with a tool to help them more confidently navigate their environment.

The Problem

Occasionally, students traversing campus will likely encounter unexpected detours or get lost on their way to a new classroom. For individuals with disabilities, there is an added complexity to disruptions like these: accessibility.

Navigating a new route on campus can lead to unknown barriers that prevent access, yet identifying the most accessible route to a destination ahead of time is hard to do without having access to detailed information about campus buildings. Thus in these situations, the only solution to get to their destination is trial and error. We aim to fix this problem.

Our Solution

Accessibility maps provide an on-the-go source of information that can help campus community members and visitors more effectively navigate campus while avoiding barriers in their environment. By providing building-by-building and floor-by-floor details about features such as entrances, restrooms, elevators, pathway obstructions, and more, campus community members can identify routes, amenities, and areas that satisfy their unique accessibility needs.
